Problems
- If your right-hand frame is too narrow to read all text,
try one or more of the following. First, widen the browser window as much
as possible to fill your screen. Second, move your pointer to the frame divider
until it appears as a pair of vertical lines with arrows on each side. Move
the frame divider to the left as far as necessary to make the right-hand frame
wide enough to see all text. If the text disappears after moving the frame
divider, reload the page. Third, go to the browsers View menu and decrease
the font size (e.g., to 90 percent). To consistently load smaller fonts, go to your browsers
preferences and reset the font size.
- If the text in the Research Memo Example
does not wrap correctly at the end of each line, go to your browsers
View menu and decrease the font size (e.g., to 90 percent).
- In the Research Memo Example, the right-hand
frame should be wide enough so that you can see the cross-reference to support
materials in the right-hand margin. (The first cross-reference is B-1 and
appears at the beginning of Analysis 1.) If the right-hand frame
is too narrow, try the suggestions in #1 above.
- The Research Memo Example is heavily footnoted.
To view a footnotes text, roll the pointer over the superscripted
number. The footnote text may appear above or below the superscripted number. If
the footnote text is bunched tightly in the right-hand margin, try widening
the right-hand frame as explained above. If the footnote text does not appear,
you can click the superscripted number to see the footnote and use the Back
arrow or button to return to your place in the tax research memo.
- The Research Memo Example allows the user
to toggle back and forth between the research memo and the authoritative support
materials. If your connection speed is slow, your download time when toggling
may take a few seconds. An alternative approach for users with slow connections
might be to print hard copies of both the research memo and the authoritative
support materials for separate study. Still another approach is to open two
windows in your browser, one showing the research memo and one showing the
support materials. If your screen is large enough, you can align them side
by side and view both simultaneously.
- Some combinations of browsers and platforms cause an error page to appear when clicking links appearing in the self-tests. Changing browsers (e.g., from Explorer to Netscape) usually fixes the problem.
