WRAS Voted "Best Overall Radio Station" by Critics and Readers of Creative Loafing

Wednesday September 24, 2008

Thanks to Creative Loafing and everyone who voted for WRAS!

"Sure, you can justify the wild popularity of Georgia State University’s WRAS-FM (88.5) because of its long-running and refreshingly unique programming. Oldies but goodies include soundtrack symposium “Nitrate 88" on Saturday afternoons, drum-and-bass show “Subterranean” on Friday nights, and the head-nodding Saturday-evening block of soul and hip-hop shows “Soul Kitchen,” “Urban Flava” and “The Bomb.” But when you add niche shows such as “Nippon Music Champ” (all things Japanese, Sunday evenings), and the girls-only “Mighty Aphrodite” (Thursday nights), then mix it with the station’s groundbreaking regular rotation, the quality is amplified. To top things off, WRAS devotes a fair chunk of its time and resources to Atlanta’s up-and-coming and well-established bands. Check out the station’s website for videos of live, in-studio performances – and be sure to listen for the student-produced show promos, which are nearly as entertaining as the music itself."
