Overview

Georgia State supports 16 intercollegiate sports, with competition that moved into the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) on July 1, 2005. Georgia State competes at the Division I level with automatic bids to NCAA postseason tournaments offered to each sport. Georgia State Athletics, an NCAA-sanctioned department, competes in nine women’s sports and seven men’s sports. The Panther athletic lineup includes: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, volleyball, men’s outdoor track, and women’s indoor and outdoor track. Georgia State will field football starting in 2010.

Georgia State utilizes two main facilities to conduct its sports programs. The men’s and women’s basketball programs and the volleyball program practice and compete in the Georgia State Sports Arena, a 3,500-capacity facility located in the heart of campus. The Panthersville Athletic Complex, located 10 miles east of downtown on I-20, is home for the baseball, softball, soccer and cross country teams. The facility recently underwent a major development and expansion project. The men and women’s golf teams’ home course is Eagles Landing Country Club, while the tennis teams call the Piedmont Park Tennis Center home.

The Sports Arena also serves as headquarters for Georgia State Athletics, housing offices for head coaches in all sports as well as the athletic director’s office and various administrative departments. The student-athlete development center and the strength and conditioning center are also located in the Sports Arena. Georgia State offers financial assistance in the form of scholarships to all sports teams. All student-athletes on athletic aid are recruited by each individual coach.

To obtain information about trying out for a particular team, contact coaches directly. Contact information on coaches and staff is available at GeorgiaStateSports.com. Students must be enrolled full-time and be in good academic standing to try out for a team.

Students are encouraged to support Georgia State Athletics by attending games. All students gain FREE admission to all home athletic events with their valid PantherCard. Schedules, results and promotional information for Georgia State sports and events are available at GeorgiaStateSports.com.
