Overview

Georgia State University Army ROTC is designed to enhance cadet leadership and management skills while preparing the student/cadet to become a second lieutenant in the regular Army, US Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard. The program is available to freshmen, sophomores,
juniors, and seniors, as well as graduate students. There are four Military Science and Leadership courses available which are described in the Undergraduate Catalog and Banner.

Students are selected who exhibit scholarly, athletic, and leadership attributes coupled with a strong desire to serve their country as an Army officer. Two, three, and four-year scholarships are available to those who qualify. Generally, a student with a SAT/ACT score of roughly 1000/20
and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (high school or transfer) will be competitive. The Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP), which allows dual membership in a Reserve Component (RC) and Army ROTC as a Military Science and Leadership (MSL) I, II, or III cadet, is also available for those who do not qualify or do not receive a scholarship. This program affords enlisted members of the Army Reserve and Army National Guard the opportunity to continue service while participating in the ROTC.

Army ROTC offers a wide variety of training opportunities ranging from field
training exercises (FTX), combat water survival test (CWST), rappelling, Airborne School (Fort Benning, GA), Air Assault School (Fort Campbell, KY), Leaders Training Course (Fort Knox, KY), Leadership
Development and Assessment Course (Fort Lewis, WA), Nurse Summer Training Program (worldwide), and Cadet Professional Development Training (worldwide).

In Fall 2005, Army ROTC introduced its new Freshman Learning Community in conjunction with the Emerging Leaders Program. During the academic scheduling process, this community of freshmen with similar goals and interests attend core classes with others in their community in addition to an introduction to leadership.
