Help

Before Beginning:

  • Read Wireless Access.
  • Know your computer login userID and password.
Students: This is the userid and password you enter when logging into your student email account or a campus open-access lab. If you do not know yours, visit http://www.student.gsu.edu/ for assistance.
Faculty/Staff: This is your Novell userid and password.
  • You must have a Wireless Network Card properly installed on your computer.

Setup Procedures:

Step 1. Setup Airport.

  1. Locate the Airport icon in your toolbar.
  2. Click on the icon and choose Turn Airport On from the pull-down menu.
  3. Click the icon again and choose “Other…
  4. In the dialog box, fill in the Closed Network Name as CatChat.
You will need to be in an area of campus that has an active wireless network.
  5. Click OK.
Once you connect, the Airport icon in your menu bar will show the signal strength level of the wireless network.

Step 2. Verify Connectivity to the Wireless Network.

Confirm that you can reach the wireless network. You must be able to reach the network - in general - before you can attempt to create a personal login session with your userid/password.

    1. Open a Browser.
    2. Type in wireless.gsu.edu and press Enter.
If you see Welcome to the GSU Wireless Network you are connected. If not, close the browser and try reconfiguring your wireless card.

Step 3. Install the VPN Client.

    1. Download the Client from the wireless.gsu.edu web site.
When you download the file, it will probably “unstuff” itself and create the CiscoVPNClient icon on your desktop. If you don’t see the CiscoVPNClient on your desktop, you can “unstuff” the file with Stuffit Expander. The resulting file will be called CiscoVPNClient.dmg.
    2. Double-click CiscoVPNClient.dmg to create the CiscoVPN Client icon on your desktop.
    3. Double-click the CiscoVPNClient icon.
    4. Double-click the Install VPN icon.
Read the dialog boxes and follow the simple onscreen instructions. The VPN Client will be installed in your Applications folder. You may want to place the VPN Client on the Dock for easy access in the future.
    5. Restart your computer.

Connect:

    1. Open the VPNClient Application.
    2. Choose wireless-vpn from the menu, and then click the Connect button on the button bar.
    3. Enter your Novell UseridID and password.
To check your connection: Once you've successfully connected to the VPN, open your web browser and connect to your favorite web site.
