Before Beginning:

  • Read Wireless Access.
  • Know your computer login userID and password.
Students: This is the userid and password you enter when logging into your student email account or a campus open-access lab. If you do not know yours, visit http://www.student.gsu.edu/ for assistance.
Faculty/Staff: This is your Novell userid and password.
  • You must have a Wireless Network Card properly installed on your computer.

Setup Procedures:

Step 1. Configure Your Wireless Network Card for the Georgia State Wireless Network.

    1. Insert the wireless network card, and then turn on the computer.
    2. Click Start.
    3. Point to Control Panel>Network & Internet Connections>Network Connections>Wireless Network Connections.
    4. Locate your Wireless Network Connection (it will be whatever you named it during the install), and right-click on it.
    5. Click View Available Wireless Connections.
    6. Click Advanced.
    7. Click Add.
      1. Enter your SSID (CatChat).
      2. UNcheck Data Encryption (WEP enabled).
      3. Click OK.
    8. Click OK, again.
      Close the window.

Step 2. Verify Connectivity to the Wireless Network.

Confirm that you can reach the wireless network. You must be able to reach the network - in general - before you can attempt to create a personal login session with your userid/password.

    1. Open a Browser.
    2. Type in wireless.gsu.edu and press Enter.
If you see Welcome to the GSU Wireless Network you are connected. If not, close the browser and try reconfiguring your wireless card.

Connect:

Establish a personal connection to the wireless network by authenticating your userid/password through a Web Browser.

  1. Open a Browser.
  2. Enter your userid and password, and then press Enter.
You are connected to the wireless network.
