Jerry Allen is the Manager of the Network Operations Center of University Computing and Communications Services for Georgia State University. Jerry joined Georgia State in 2000 with the challenge of converting the Data Center into a fully operating Network Operations Center.

Jerry has been pivotal in the creation of the Georgia State Network Operations Center. Under his guidance, the Center has defined its new role as the University’s Network Operations Center. Georgia State’s Network Operations Center has quickly become a premier center that attracts visitors from universities across the nation. The changes to the center are not just in hardware and equipment, but also in the vision of the personnel assigned to the center. Through on-line training, testing software, and actual hands on experience the Network Operations Center personnel have acquired new skill sets and a new vision for their future. The transition has included new console furniture, removing the majority of cables from under the floor and moving them into overhead cable trays, and the replacement of numerous battery UPS with a flywheel/generator system that has all hosts/servers/switches and routers behind protected power. The Center is a work-in-progress and it continues to grow in ability and importance to the University.

Jerry is a retired Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy. His last assignment was to design and install the WAN/LAN for a multi-command headquarters complex that housed 2000 employees. Jerry brings a wealth of experience in the areas of Networking and IT infrastructure. He has been a field engineer, team leader, Senior Engineer, MIS director and Chief Technology Officer for both K-12 education and private firms throughout Georgia. He is active in AFCOM and has been a guest presenter at the last two national AFCOM conferences.
