The Century Club: Teaching Large Classes

 

Do you teach a class so large that administrative matters interfere with time for instruction?  Join the monthly discussions of the Century Club, a regular meeting of those teaching large classes, for an exchange of ideas, tested techniques and support. Monthly meetings be on the first Friday from 12-1:30 room 205 of Library South on the following dates: September 2, October 7, and November 4.

 Preparing Graduate Students to Teach in Higher Education

This group of faculty members who work with graduate students and teaching assistants share ideas on how to prepare, support, and reward the work of teaching assistants in their departments. Monthly meetings begin on second Friday,from 10 till 11:30 in room 205 of Library South on September 9, October 14, and November 11.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Groups

Meetings of faculty in discipline clusters who meet and discuss how to design, conduct, analyze and publish research on student learning in their classes.

Jump Start Learning

On Thursday, August 18 the Center for Teaching and Learning and University Educational Technology Services will offer faculty and teaching assistants a day of information and support for promoting student learning in room 600 Classroom South.

using it to engage students and enhance learning 9:30-10:15.

Survival Skills for Large Classes—Strategies and practical suggestions for working with large classes from faculty members in the GSU Century Club 11-11:45 (Kris Clark, Accountancy; Shelby Frost, Economics; and Sue Willey, RMI).

Atlanta-Based Learning,Learn how faculty can engage students in Campus Atlanta and the many learning opportunities offered by our urban setting 12-12:45 (Nannette Commander, Undergraduate Programs).

Learning Outcomes—Deciding what students need to learn and if they learned it—A practical approach to planning and documenting what students learn 1-1:45  (Faye Borthick, Director of the Teaching and Learning with Technology Center).

Technology Showcase by University Educational Technology Service—In room 600 CS from 9 till 3 at times between the presentations listed above, UETS will demonstrate state of the art  technologies.
