Grants & Funding: Course Development Project
Purpose:
Redesign an extant course and use WebCT to make the course
WEB enhanced for ground courses and a distance education course
in order to
A) provide experience at GSU for this type of course development,
B) provide an example to the USG, and,
C) develop procedures for course development that can be applied
to other courses.

Assumption: The University will provide all resources and
support needed.
Criteria for selecting the course:
- High enrollment in multiple sections.
- Content suitable for this type of development.
- Support by the college and the department and a commitment
to use the material to WEB enhance most or all sections
of the course.
- The re-designed course must be learner-centered, use
criterion-based assessment, and foster a learning community
atmosphere.
- A commitment by participating faculty and department
to offer the course as a distance education course.
- Participating faculty committed to the concept.
- Participating faculty with some experience in distance
learning, learner-centered instruction, WEB enhancement
of courses, and distance education.
- Participating faculty committed to research on teaching
using the course and course revision based on the outcome.
Procedure:
- Assemble faculty and other staff to design the course
and oversee its development.
- Use faculty, GAs and other staff to develop the material.
Use the resources of IS&T, the library and distributed
education where appropriate.
- Check with BOR and with GLOBE for support and resources.
- Mine the WEB to find material already developed that
can be used. Example, the Merlot site.
Time line:
- Select the course and assemble the faculty team by January
2000.
- Complete course design by March 2000.
- Complete beta version and test the material Fall Semester
2000.
- Revise material based on the test to be ready by Spring
Semester 2001.
- Offer as a distance education course Fall 2001.
