F. Privacy of Student Records

1. Directory Information
Directory information will be treated as public information and is generally available on all students and former students at the discretion of the University. Directory information includes: the student’s name; address; telephone number; date and place of birth; major field of study; participation in officially recognized activities and sports; height; weight; age; hometown; hobbies; and general interest items of members of athletic teams; dates of attendance; degrees and awards applied for and/or received; and previous educational institutions attended by the student.

Any student may refuse to permit the designation of any or all of the categories of personally identifiable information as directory information until the end of each academic year (end of the spring semester) by submitting a written request to the University representative responsible for publishing and disseminating the directory information. A new written request must be submitted each academic year.

2. Confidentiality
Students have the right to have their academic and disciplinary records kept confidential subject to existing state and federal law. No official records shall be kept that reflect any alleged political activities or beliefs of students. No official records of students shall be available to unauthorized persons within the institution or to any person outside the institution without the express consent of the student involved except under legal compulsion (e.g. subpoena).
