Eudora Welty's "Magic" reprinted for the first time since 1936

In the Summer 2004 issue of Eudora Welty Newsletter, "Magic," a Welty short story out of print since 1936, was reprinted for the first time.

An afterword by Pearl McHaney, EWN editor, discusses the story's origins, its publication history, and Welty's motives for never including the piece in any of her short story collections. Read McHaney's article here.

To help The Welty Foundation in Jackson meet its National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant for programming at the Eudora Welty House Museum, one hundred non-subscriber copies of this EWN "Magic" issue are reserved at $25.00 each, including mailing. Checks for the "Magic" issue should be made out to The Eudora Welty Foundation and sent to Eudora Welty Newsletter, Department of English, Georgia State University, P. O. Box 3970, Atlanta, GA 30302-3970 with a copy of our order form.

Indexes for One Writer's Beginnings and The Eye of the Story: Selected Essays and Reviews are now available online! As the EWN publishes more indexes, these too will become available. Please click on the title to view the index for that book.

The EWN welcomes corrections and additions to the indexes provided - just email ewn@langate.gsu.edu to let us know.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History website now hosts a virtual tour of the Welty House and Garden featuring floor plans, close-up images, details of the paintings and decorations, and photographs from the Welty family collection. The Garden opened in April with gifts of morning glory seeds for the first-weekend visitors and can now be seen by appointment. It is anticipated that the house will open in 2005. The Welty Foundation is a tax-exempt entity needing your support for the continuing development of the Welty Collection and The Welty House Museum. To take a virtual tour, go to: www.mdah.state.ms.us/newwelty/support.html. Visit the Foundation at: www.eudorawelty.org/, or send your donations to Eudora Welty Foundation, Inc., P. O.
