There’s no place like home: Georgia State celebrates Homecoming 2008

ATLANTA – Click your heels together three times and repeat the phrase, “There’s no place like home.” Instead of Kansas, you’ll find yourself at Georgia State’s Homecoming 2008, a celebration Feb. 11-17 filled with new activities, old traditions and four basketball games.

Georgia State’s Homecoming basketball game will be 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 16) in the Sports Arena, as the Panthers face the Northeastern University Huskies. A pre-game pep rally will be at 11:30 a.m. in the new student housing complex, the University Commons, and a tailgate party with free food will start at noon on the Urban Life Plaza.

Immediately after the game, the Alumni Association will host a reception in the Student Center Ballroom, where “The Pieces of Eight” will provide the entertainment. Tickets are $12 per person and $5 per student and include refreshments, beer and wine. For details, contact the Alumni Association at (404) 413-1444.

Many other activities are planned for Georgia State’s Homecoming celebration, such as a 1990s block party at 9 p.m. Monday (Feb. 11) in Veterans Hall; a golf-cart parade at 12:15 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 14) along Decatur Street and an intramural basketball tournament at 3 p.m. Friday (Feb. 15) in the Student Recreation Center.

The homecoming king and queen will be crowned at the Coronation and Ball 9 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 14) in the Student Center Ballroom, and Georgia State’s Greek organizations will showcase their talents 9 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 16) in the Sports Arena. Advance tickets for the showcase are $10 for students and $12 for non-Georgia State patrons. At the door, tickets are $15.
