AAMGA pledges $1 million to establish distinquished chair in Robinson's Department of Risk Management and Insurance

Atlanta - The American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA) has pledged $1 million to fund an endowment through the Georgia State University Foundation for the establishment of a Distinguished Chair in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Department of Risk Management and Insurance (RMI). The endowment will provide for the study of the global dynamics of the insurance industry and how they impact AAMGA members.

The AAMGA is an international trade association of the premier wholesale property and casualty agents and companies in the insurance industry. The Robinson College of Business is one of the nation's premier business schools for working professionals with 16 programs ranked by eight leading publications. The school has more than 7,000 students and is located in downtown Atlanta.

According to the association's treasurer, Wes Duesenberg, and AAMGA University Chancellor Rob Giles, "AAMGA is proud and excited to continue its efforts as a leader in providing wholesale insurance education by forging this relationship with Georgia State and the Robinson College. The members of AAMGA will have available a continuously expanding set of learning opportunities, enabling them to establish a lasting reputation as the best providers of products and services to the wholesale excess and surplus lines insurance sector."

Robinson Dean H. Fenwick Huss noted, "We are honored that AAMGA has chosen the Robinson College and our Department of Risk Management and Insurance to further its educational initiatives. We believe that the AAMGA Distinguished Chair, working in partnership with members of our world renowned Robinson College faculty, will make significant contributions to the preparedness of AAMGA membership for global challenges of the 21st century."

Richard D. Phillips, chair of Robinson's RMI department, said, "The new Distinguished Chair in Risk Management and Insurance will be a nationally and internationally recognized academic on topics relevant to the risk management and insurance industries." He also noted that, "The distinguished chair will assist the department chair and other Robinson College officials as they create executive educational offerings targeted to the needs of AAMGA members and assist in the development of strategies designed to improve the structure, processes and curriculum of AAMGA University, the educational arm of AAMGA that offers members professional development opportunities and member certification."

The pledge will be fulfilled over a three-year period. The search to fill the new distinguished chair position will begin as soon as the endowment is fully funded.
