Information for Prospective Students

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR APPLICATIONS

 1. Read these instructions carefully before you begin preparing the application; follow the instructions throughout the application process and answer all questions asked of you.

 2. Your application is your means of presenting yourself to the department's admissions committee. Thus, it is important that all questions be answered thoroughly and thoughtfully.

 3. Please do not submit your application in a binder or notebook of any kind. Term papers, videos or other items of this nature in support of your application must be simply presented and transportable in an ordinary 81/2´X 11" business file.

4. We recommend that you make a photocopy of your complete application, including all supplemental attachments and forms, for your own records.

SELF-MANAGED APPLICATION PROCESS

The College of Arts and Sciences uses self-managed applications for admission to its programs. This means that it is your responsibility to prepare or collect all credentials and submit them at one time to the Graduate Office.

A self-managed application requires appropriate planning on your part to allow time for you to prepare the application properly and collect all of your transcripts and letters of recommendation. This process also gives you—the applicant—control over when your application is complete. It eliminates the need for concern over lost or misdirected forms, letters of recommendation or transcripts.

1. The first step of the process is to complete an online application and any supplemental forms at the Graduate Office Web site and pay the application fee. If you live in a country where either the modem speed or accessibility to a computer restricts you from doing this, then include in your admissions packet a paper copy of the forms and a payment for the $50 application fee.

The application forms linked to this site are also prepared in Adobe PDF format, which requires Adobe Reader, a free software plug-in for your web browser. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, you must download and install it before you can print these materials.

2. After applying and paying via the Internet, prepare the admissions packet as outlined below. You will be sent an email notice by  the Graduate Office acknowledging receipt of the completed application packet.

3. Do not send an incomplete packet to the office in an attempt to expedite review of your application. This will create a substantial delay in processing your application. Complete packets are given processing priority. Files completed too late for consideration for the desired semester will be considered for one additional semester without a reapplication fee, when requested specifically by the applicant.

4. Some departments or programs have supplemental forms on the Worldwide Web in addition to their online applications. Applicants are required to complete all supplemental forms and include them in the admissions packet before their file can be processed. Please check application requirements on the departmental Web site to identify these forms.
