ADMISSIONS
It is the Arts and Sciences Graduate Office
that originates and facilitates acceptance of potential graduate
students in the 117 academic curricula of the school. The office
provides written descriptions of the programs, maintains the
application process online through CollegeNET and in self-managed
paper copies, and communicates completed applications to the
individual academic departments for their review. The Graduate
Office does not admit any candidate on its own, but administratively
assists the application collection process for all 23 academic
units.
RECORDS
Through the online Curriculum Advising and
Program Planning Web pages, the Office maintains records available
to students 24 hours a day that reflect their academic progress
toward their chosen degree. Each benchmark in this process, such as
course completion, committee approval, qualifying examination is
displayed as they occur in the student's career at Georgia State.
Working with a Graduate Director in each department and program, the
Office maps a unique program summary for each student and maintains
records of academic activity in the student records system
(Banner).
GRADUATION
Reviewing the CAPP
compliance and coordinating this record with departmental
verification of program completion, the Graduate Office works with
the University Registrar to clear all candidates for graduation to
receive their degrees. The office sets standards for, reviews,
approves, binds and distributes all manuscripts associated with
Masters and Doctorate degrees in the form of Theses and
Dissertations. The Office also concurs with the departments that all
general College requirements for semester hours taken and research
hours completed have been met satisfactorily.
