College of Arts and Sciences Funding Priorities
Endowed Chairs and Professorships
Endowed faculty positions allow the College of Arts and
Sciences to attract and retain nationally and
internationally known scholars who enrich the academic and
cultural life of the College of Arts and Sciences. These
distinguished faculty are excellent teachers whose research
and instruction enhance the learning experience for
students.
Undergraduate Student Scholarships
These scholarships allow the College of Arts and Sciences
to attract and reward exceptional undergraduate students for
high academic achievement.
Graduate Student Fellowships
By providing the College of Arts and Sciences with the
ability to offer financial assistance that is competitive
with other universities, fellowships allow the College to
attract and reward exceptional graduate students and
strengthen its graduate programs.
Support for College-Wide Initiatives
Support for the GSU Fund for Arts and Sciences provides
the College with much needed resources to enhance the
cultural life of the campus. This fund supports the annual
College of Arts and Sciences Lecture Series as well as other
visiting scholars in many disciplines who come to Georgia
State to work with our faculty, students, and larger
community. In addition, the fund provides financial support
for the most pressing needs of the College.
Support for the Creative Arts
The College of Arts and Sciences prides itself on the
strength of its creative arts programs including the School
of Art and Design, the School of Music and the Creative
Writing Program in the Department of English. Some of the
many funding priorities in the creative arts include the
Recital Hall restoration project, the Center for Educational
Partnerships in Music, and support for Visiting Artists as
well as the Art Galleries and our literary journal, Five
Points.
Support for Interdisciplinary Centers
A number of the research and service centers in the
College of Arts and Sciences involve faculty and students
from departments throughout the college. For instance, the
Center for Latin American and Latino Studies draws faculty
and students from the departments of Anthropology, History,
Modern and Classical Languages, Political Science, and
Psychology. Similarly, members from the departments of
Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics,
Geosciences, and Philosophy work within the Center for
Environmental Research. Additional centers in the college
include the Center for Biotechnology and Drug Design, the
Asian Studies Center, the Center for Educational
Partnerships in Music, the Language Research Center, the
