Recuitment/Membership Intake

Recruitment or membership intake is a mutual selection process for joining a fraternity or sorority. It is a time for parents and aspiring students to ask questions define financial obligations, time commitments and membership requirements. Registering for recruitment or completing a Greek Interest Form does not obligate you to pledge any organization. Whether or not you decide to join a fraternity or sorority, recruitment and membership intake are great ways to meet people, find out more information on Greek Life, and get acquainted with student life at Georgia State .

Requirements to Join

In order to join any student organization, you must be a currently enrolled Georgia State University student. Each Greek-letter organization has grade point average and credit hour requirements specific to their chapter. Listed below are further details regarding the recruitment and or membership intake process for each council. Please review the council's chapter information sheet for further details on the grade and credit hour requirements.

Interfraternity Council Recruitment:

Chapters in the Interfraternity Council conduct an informal recruitment process throughout the year. This is a mutual selection process that requires interested members to attend fraternity sponsored recruitment events at the beginning of each semester. These events may sometimes include Smokers (formal information sessions), where brothers and alumni discuss the unique aspects of their fraternity and share personal experiences with prospective members.

IFC sponsors an official Bid Day event on Saturday, September 13, 2008 @ 12 p.m. for all IFC chapters and their new members. To register, stop by the Office of Student Life & Leadership (330 Student Center) or download and complete the Greek Interest form

Being Yourself:

The process of joining a fraternity or sorority can be stressful, as potential members try to fit the mold or stereotype of the person they think an organization is looking for. The best advice we can give you is to keep an open mind and be yourself. While certain values, rules and procedures are very much a part of Greek Life (as in any organization), fraternity and sorority members respect the individual talents, interests and accomplishments of their members. That's why a "Greek" is many different things. Greeks are students from different cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. At Georgia State, a sorority or fraternity member is: a HOPE Scholar, a member of a rock band, a Presidential Scholar, a computer wizard, a dancer, a cheerleader, an artist, Homecoming King or Queen, an engineer, a pre-Law major, a community assistant, a pilot, an actress/actor in theatrical productions, a varsity athlete, a student senator, a member of the Athletic Board, a member of Spotlight, SGA Vice President, a communications major, an Incept Team member, a professional singer, a business major, a Young Republican, a Young Democrat, an education major, a waitress, a peer counselor, a friend . . . a Georgia State Greek is YOU!
