The
Lanson laboratory is on the grounds of the Language Research Center
of Georgia State University. This is where the chimpanzees are housed
and participate in studies.
The
indoor area consists of four interconnected cages. Each cage offers
the opportunity to observe single or group housed animals as they
participate in experiments. Each indoor cage also offers access
to joystick ports through which the chimpanzees operate joysticks
to perform computerized tasks.
The
outdoor area consists of three large play yards and two towers for
climbing. The play yards include numerous activities such as tires,
swings, puzzle boxes, and of course lexigram keyboards for communication.
The towers are 20 feet tall and allow the chimpanzees visual access
to the surrounding buildings and structures of the LRC.
