Summer Studies in Perugia

Georgia State University’s 2007 Summer Study Abroad in Perugia, Italy offers students having completed Intermediate Italian (First two years of Language) to advance their linguistic competence and deepen their understanding of Italian culture. Students will complete two third-year courses, Italian Conversation and Composition and Introduction to Italian Civilization in a full immersion setting in the ancient Umbrian city of Perugia. The focus of study in the Italian civilization will be on Umbria, the heart of Italy and cradle of the ancient Etruscan culture and will include day trips to the towns of Spello, Spoleto, Orvieto, Gubbio, Deruta and Assisi. The program will conclude with three nights in Rome.

The focus of this program is on linguistic proficiency and entails a significant amount of interaction between professor and students, students with one another and between students and their host families, local merchants and Italian students at the University of Perugia. All courses are conducted in Italian and students are required to speak only Italian during all course and social activities.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Students stay in double-occupancy rooms rented from resident families in Perugia. One abundant Italian meal per day (usually lunch around 1 P.M.) is included in the price of the program.

ELIGIBILITY

Students having completed second-year Italian (Ital 2002) with at least a C at Georgia State University or its equivalent may apply, generally by January 31. Students should submit a letter of motivation addressing why they want to study in Italy and how the Perugia program will assist them in accomplishing their personal and professional goals.

CREDITS AND COURSES

COST
