The Department of Philosophy at Georgia State University welcomes applications from graduate students at the University of Paris IV–La Sorbonne who wish to participate in the exchange program recently initiated between our two universities. We provide excellent educational opportunities for students who wish to study in the areas of the ethics, philosophy of law, social and political philosophy, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, and metaphysics. Students will be able to take courses on a wide variety of topics as well as receive personal instruction from one or more of our fifteen professors (three of whom speak French). Students should be aware that all classes will be given in English. Georgia State University offers (for an additional fee) instruction in English. Students from the University of Paris–Sorbonne are eligible for both teaching and research assistantships, and these assistantships bring with them a waiver of most tuition charges and pay a stipend of $6,000 to $12,000 per year. The Philosophy Department will help students find housing.
Atlanta, a city of three and a half million, is an exciting place to live. It is at once a very American city and a cosmopolitan city with a distinctive international atmosphere. There are numerous cultural, social, and recreational activities available to students, many sponsored by the University itself. We believe that French students will find the experience of studying in our department to be a very valuable and enjoyable one. We look forward to hearing from you.
