What does PURC stand for?

PURC is shorthand for the Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference at Georgia State University. This conference is held each spring and this year is co-sponsored by the GSU Department of Psychology, the GSU Psychology Developmental Program, and the GSU chapter of Psi Chi (the National Undergraduate Honorary Society for Psychology).

Who can submit a proposal for PURC?

Undergraduate students majoring in psychology are invited to submit proposals to present at PURC.

What are appropriate topics for PURC presentations?

Proposals may address any area of psychology and/or the scientific study of human behaviors and attitudes. The work presented may based on any of the following:

    • laboratory or field research
    • research or applied internship experiences
    • a class project

I’d like to present at PURC, but I’m in the middle of the project that I’d like to do my presentation on. Can I still submit a proposal?

Yes. We accept proposals for PURC on work that is completed or in progress.

My area of interest is not related to this year’s theme. Can I still submit a proposal?

Absolutely! The theme of each year’s PURC guides the topic of the Keynote Address. However, student presentations can represent any area of psychology.

Can a faculty member or graduate student submit a proposal for PURC?

No. All PURC proposals must be submitted by an undergraduate author.

Can a faculty member or graduate student be a co-author on a proposal for PURC?

Yes, as long as an undergraduate is the first author.

How do I submit my proposal for PURC?

You must use the online proposal submission form which can be found at http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwpur/proposal.htm.

What is the deadline for submitting a proposal for this year’s PURC?

For PURC Fall 2007, the deadline for submitting a proposal is October 15, 2007.

When will I know if my proposal was accepted for presentation this year’s PURC?

You will be notified by October 22, 2007, whether or not your submission has been accepted. This notification will be made by email to all authors listed in the proposal.

If I submit a proposal, do I still need to complete the online registration form?

Yes. Submitting a proposal does NOT register you for PURC. You will need to complete a registration form separately. All registered undergraduate students will be invited to attend the Professional Roundtable Luncheon, free of charge. Also, refreshments will be available for those who register.

I’m an undergraduate student, but I’m not submitting a proposal. How do I register for PURC?

Register online at http://www2.gsu.edu/~wwwpur/register.htm.

Can I send you my registration directly?

No, all registration applications must now be completed online.

Why should I register for PURC?

Students who are registered by the deadline receive first priority for all PURC events, including the Professional Roundtable Luncheon, the Keynote Address , and the afternoon panels (see Program). Registered participants will also receive email notifications about PURC prior to the conference and advance notice of special events related to PURC.

I’m NOT an undergraduate student, but I want to attend PURC. Can I register?

PURC is open to faculty, graduate students, high school students, and GSU alumni in the Atlanta metropolitan area. However, because PURC is primarily intended for undergraduate students, there are some events restricted to undergraduate participants only, such as the Professional Roundtable Luncheon.

What is the registration deadline for this year’s PURC?

The registration deadline is October 30, 2007.

I didn’t register by the registration deadline. Can I still attend PURC?

Yes. Participants may register on the day of the event. Individuals who register late will be given priority for PURC events over those who do not register.

Is there a registration fee for PURC?

No. Registering for PURC is free!

Will there be food and beverages for PURC participants?

Yes. Refreshments will be available for participants who register before the event. Other conference participants will be responsible for their own lunch.
