The GSTEP is given five or six times per academic semester by the Department of Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language at Georgia State University. The purpose of the GSTEP is to evaluate the English language proficiency of current or prospective GSU students whose whose native language is not English (Students applying to schools elsewhere should inquire with that school's admissions office to find out if it accepts the GSTEP scores).

There are four different GSTEPs:

• ISSS GSTEP- for new international students arriving at GSU for their first semester
• Admissions GSTEP- for prospective students applying to GSU or certain other universities (go here for questions about this test)
• Regents' GSTEP- for GSU undergraduates to meet Regents' requirements
• IEP GSTEP- for current students in GSU's Intensive English Program
