Housing:
Prepare a water tank. It could
be shallow, but better be wide. Give clean sea water up to 2 cm in depth
for air-conditioning. You can get sea water at pet shop. Since they cannot
stay underwater for long, supply rocks or pieces of china for their resting
sites and for their privacy!
The sea water should be replaced
at least once a week.
Meals:
They eat almost everything you eat. I bet they like Japanese foods. Try
some and find out by yourself. I treat them with dried tiny fishes (very
Japanese!) and sea weeds. Wash away leftovers before rotten.
Marriage & childbirth:
If you find copulation, Don't
disturb! Gently introduce them into a small quiet room (plastic case, lunch
box, etc.), so that they can keep on dating. After they finished, put the
groom back to the colony and leave the bride alone to raise babies. Newborn
babies are really cute! Contact Dr.
H. Yamagishi (Univ. of Tsukuba) if you wanna know about their heartbeat
mechanism...
