First of all, I have to show you the location of the heart...

The heart of Ligia is tubular, situated in the pericardial cavity under the dorsal carapace. There the heart is suspended by several ligaments. The heart wall is composed of a single layer of myocardial cells (see figure below)

Inside the heart there is the cardiac ganglion. The cardiac ganglion of Ligia exotica is composed of 6 neurons which align longitudinally on the roof of the ventricular lumen (see figure below), forming the ganglion trunk. The ganglion trunk and nerve branches are somewhat attached on the muscle of the heart wall and make neuromuscular synapses.
