Mother Crochets.....

Laura Morgan Satterfield is 92 years young, still active, learning, cooking, working with flowers, petting grandchildren and great grandchildren, but she has not been crocheting lately due to arithritis in her hands. Regardless...

We're very proud of Mother!

She loves to crochet but doesn't follow the written, encoded directions. She looks at patterns and then recreates them. Sometimes she may make an error, but that is corrected by "raveling out" and recrocheting that area. Mother spends a good bit of time in the evenings crocheting as she listens to TV or the radio.

In this photograph, you can see a few of the pieces she has made. Mother has over 30 pieces finished at the moment, most of which are round though a few are rectangular.

In this closeup some of the lovely symmetry is obvious,

and even closer, the intricate thread pattern becomes visible.

She crochets mostly with an ecru cotton thread, and when the piece is finished, it is washed, stretched to shape then allowed to dry.

Mother gives some of her handiwork to close relatives and friends for birthday or Christmas gifts. She also sells some of it for "egg money". The pieces are priced differently...$25 to $125 depending on the size and complexity of the design, yet is relatively inexpensive considering the hours required to produce the piece. And... it's not just a piece of crocheting...it's a chunk of Mother's life.

If you wish to purchase one of Mother's creations, contact me for more information. Should you wish to discuss crocheting with her, contact me and I'll be the intermediate for you. She is amazed by computers and webpages, but...so far...has left this "computer stuff" to me.

Thank you for dropping by. Do come again.
