Publishing your pages to the web

Establish your GSU account and obtain your userid and password.

http://help.student.gsu.edu/

Create your document in Word.

Use Word to create your document (report). Once the document is complete click  File/ Save as Webpage (2000/XP users). Give the file a name (like project1). Word will create a file called project1.htm and if there are pictures in your document it will also create a folder called project1_files.

Creating Webpages in Office 2000/XP

Let us assume that the document that you are creating is to be called project1.htm. This document contains pictures and other illustrations. These pictures will be saved as separate GIF or JPEG image files. In order for your web page to be complete, these image files should also be posted.

When you save this document as a webpage (File/Save as Webpage), Office 2000 will create project1.htm and a folder called project1_files (this folder will contain images and other supporting files). This folder has to be posted along with the htm document. The URL to this page will be -

http://www.student.gsu.edu/~userid/project1.htm    (NOTE: Your file names should NOT contain any spaces)

Posting files to the web using Internet Explorer

Access the FTP site by entering ftp://ftp.student.gsu.edu/

Click OK to bypass the warning message.

Click File/Login As and then enter your user name and password.

Once logged in, double click on public_html folder. This folder will contain the files that you want to be available on the web.

NOTE: If you are unable to access your server, try resetting your password. Doing this usually resolves most access issues.  Also, some firewalls at business locations prohibit you from transferring files. If this is an issue, try doing this from a home computer.

Once you are logged in, you can copy the files/folders that you are trying to post to the server from Windows Explorer / My Computer and paste them into the FTP window. Your files are now published to the web.
