This semester, I will be using a "threaded e-mail discussion group" system located on the WWW titled "NiceNet."  For this system, you will have to add yourself to the discussion list.  Once on the internet, pull up the page you are currently reading (the correct URL appears immediately below):
http://www.gsu.edu/~esljmm/methods/nicenetsetup.htm

Once there, you have two options for accessing the NiceNet system.  You can (1) click here, or (2) you may prefer to put in the correct URL yourself (i.e.,  http://www.nicenet.org).  Once you are into the NiceNet screen, you will be asked to provide the necessary "class key."  This quarter, the Class Key we will be using is: Q4937A79 (note:  only GSU students officially enrolled in the AL 8450 have permission to access this E-mail site.  All others will be deleted).   Once you have entered the accurate Class Key you should be able to follow NiceNet's directions to set up your own user account.  To do so, two other pieces of information you will need to provide to the NiceNet system are:  (1) your name (i.e., a "username") and (2) a password of your choice (something easy for you to remember).  You will also be asked to input your your personal E-Mail address (e.g., the one assigned to you through the GSU computer center; or some other E-Mail address you use). Acutally, an E-mail address is requested but optional when working within the NiceNet system.  Once you have gone through these steps, you will be automatically added to our course roster within the NiceNet system.  For the time being, we will be using the "class conference" function (mainly), though you may want to explore some of NiceNet's other functions later in the course.  Once you are into the "Approaches" course site within NiceNet, look to the left hand side of the NiceNet screen to locate the "class conference" function, as well as the "class roster" function.  Please begin to explore what's there.  I have only posted a few messages, just to get you started.  Also, you will find a complete listing of locations where you can post messages under the headings of our assigned course readings.  You may want to send a couple of initial messages in order to make sure that we are all "on-line."  I think you will find that NiceNet's directions are relatively straightforward and easy to follow.  Good luck exploring!

If you would like to take a peak at the Approaches course discussions from the fall quarter of 1997, you are welcome to do so.  The threaded discussions were excellent.  The set up was a little different then.  It is located under http://www.nicenet.org  Also, last year's "class key," in the "Nicenet.org" system was s1617a46 Actually, I am not sure this site is still active do don't be discouraged if you can locate it.
