The Tobacco Root Geological Society (TEGS) offers an annual competitive award for student excellence in a Geology Field Course. This is not a scholarship, but rather a merit award for a student in a capstone geology field program based primarily in the Northern Rocky Mountains, the TRGS area of interest.

It is not an award that students apply for; rather, one student per course per year is nominated by the director or faculty in charge of the program after completion of the course. the award consists of a certificate, listing in TRGS publications, and a cash prize of $250 (see the related document).

One award will be given each year. The choice from among nominees will be made by a committee appointed by the TRGS Executive Committee. Awards will be based on evidence of a student’s technical ability, independence, creativity, improvement, general understanding, and likelihood to continue in a geoscience profession.
