Read the paper below if you intend to use the XRF at GSU.

You should familiarize yourself with the principles of XRF, by reading this and other sources that deal with obtaining superior rock analyses.

Click here to see a paper I published in The Rigaku Journal in 1989, posted on the Rigaku web site. This paper covers the basics, from principles to sample preparation to operation of the spectrometer.

A slightly modified version of the paper is reproduced here. This version has no photographs, but corrects a couple of typo errors in the published version.

In terms of principles, the paper is current. However, the paper refers to the software of the 3070, and the current spectrometer is the 3270. Also, some references to available materials may be out of date.
