Undergraduate RIMMES (RESEARCH INITIATIONS IN MATHEMATICS, MATHEMATICS
EDUCATION AND STATISTICS) at Georgia State University
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics announces the third edition of the program
Undergraduate Research Initiations in Mathematics, Mathematics Education
and Statistics (for short, RIMMES), open to undergraduate students at
Georgia State University.
The program goal is to introduce undergraduate students to research in
mathematics, mathematics education and statistics. The program will teach
the students how to recognize interesting research problems, develop new
ideas, compare them to old ones, and present their findings in papers or
posters. The students will benefit from close interaction with faculty
members and their peers.
The following students are currently admitted to the RIMMES program:
Robert Burnham: "Musical Modulation by Symmetries". Mentor: Dr. Montiel.
Jason Adams: "Metapopulation networks: interplay between topology and local dynamics". Mentor: Dr. Belykh.
Lyudmila Petrova: "Patterns of synchrony in neuronal networks". Mentor: Dr. Belykh.
Jeremy Wojcik: "Fitting techniques for determining bifurcations underlying transition from bursting to tonic-spiking in heart interneurons". Mentor: Dr. Shilnikov.
Dimitri Osborn: "Sign Patterns That Require All Distinct Eigenvalues". Mentor: Dr. Arav.
Rene Gordon: "Dynamics of neurons coupled by inhibitory and excitatory synapses". Mentor: Dr. Shilnikov.
An End of the Year Event has been scheduled for April 18, 11:30-2pm in 796 COE (Paul Erdos) where the above students will
give 10 minute presentations on their research work. Everyone is welcome to attend.
