REGULATIONSFOR THE DEGREE
Graduate

I.All Master of Science students will complete the Business CommunicationSkills Requirement.  (A maximum of six hours of transfer credit ispermitted in this 30-hour program.)

II.Course Requirements

Thecourse requirements for the degree Master of Science with a major in managementand the format of the program follow:

    A. Foundation Requirements. The courses in this list are in addition tothe 30 hours required for the degree. They are assigned aspart of the admissions process based on a review of each student's transcripts.They can be exempted if equivalent coursework has been previously completedwith grades of "C" or higher.

         Accounting:               MBA 8121, or Acct 2101-2102.
         Behavioral Science:     a course in principles of management,psychology, or sociology.
         Economics:                Econ 2106.
         Mathematics:              Math 1111.
         Statistics:                   MBA 8041 or DSc 3100.

    B. Specialization and Electives in the Major (30 hours)

         An M.S. student majoring in management must choose one of the three specializationsand  complete 30 hours of appropriate coursework for the specialization.NOTE: Consult Section  10 (Course Descriptions) later in this bulletinfor prerequisites to the courses listed below.

         Production/Operations Management

         Required Courses (18-27 hours)

         MBA 8452. Systems and Operations Management. (3)
         Mgt 8510.   Operations Planning and Control. (3)
         Mgt 8540.   Production/Operations Strategy. (3)

         At least three of the following:

         Mgt 8440. Work Team Design and Development. (3)
         Mgt 8550. Applications of Simulation in Management. (3)
         Mgt 8560. Principles of Quality Management. (3)
         Mgt 8570. Productivity and Quality Improvement Programs. (3)
         Mgt 8820. Project Management. (3)
         Mgt 8960. Seminar in the Design of Operating Systems. (3)

         Electives (3-12 hours)

         At least one elective must be an 8000-level management course. Remainingelectives will normally be selected also from 8000-level management courses.Where  appropriate and approved by the departmental faculty adviser,electives may be taken from other areas, especially decision sciences andcomputer information systems.

         Organizational Behavior and Development

         Required Courses (21-24 hours)

         MBA 8412. Organizational Behavior. (3)
         Mgt 8200.    Theory of Organization. (3)
         Mgt 8400.    Interpersonal Dynamics in Organizations. (3)
         Mgt 8450.    Organizational Development and Change. (3)

         At least one of the following:

         Mgt 8150. Organizations, Work, and Literature. (3)
         Mgt 8430.  Enhancing Leadership Skills. (3)
         Mgt 8440.  Work Team Design and Development. (3)
         Mgt 8670.  Multiculture Perspectives on Organizational Behavior. (3)

         Electives (6-9 hours)

         These courses will normally be selected from 8000-level courses in managementand/or in   personnel and employment relations. Where appropriateand approved by the departmental  aculty adviser, electives may betaken from other areas, especially psychology, sociology, and anthropology.

III.Program of Study

   Each student's program must be planned in consultation with the M.S. facultyadviser for his or her specialization before a non-required course is taken.Students may contact the department to schedule an appointment. A copyof the program will be filed with the Office of Academic Assistance andMaster's Admissions for review and approval.
    Progress toward the degree, including clearance for graduation, cannotbe confirmed without an approved program of study. Any changes in the programmust be approved by the faculty adviser and a copy of the changes sentto the OAA/MA.
    Students always must consult the "Course Descriptions" section of the currentgraduate bulletin to determine if they have met the prerequisites for anycourse to be taken.

IV.Time Limit

Thetime limit for completing the M.S./Mgt. program is five calendar yearsfrom the first semester  a course in section B or C (above) is taken.
