Projects
I am currently involved in a number of projects and research
activities.
- The implementation of the 1997 -
1998 GTP---Georgia/Russia Exchange. This project, funded by
the United States Information
Agency, is the third in a series of student and educator
exchanges. Fifty American students from Georgia and 50 Russian
students and their teachers will spend three weeks in each others'
country carrying out environmental research projects.
- Evaluation of the GTP---Georgia/Russia Educator/Student
Exchange. Using data collected during the exchange period of
October 1996 to May 1997, we are trying to find out what students
and educators learned from the GTP exchange. Results will be
included in the USIA final report which will be published in
December 1997.
- The development of the GTP website, under the director of Yong
Hu, a graduate student in the Physics Department. To help
teachers who join the GTP, we are creating a web site that will
contain a set of Internet tools to facilitate global
collaboration, and research on environmental science issues. Vist
the GTP web site
to follow our development.
- Publication of the GTP teacher's guide and resource book.
Working with Julie Weisberg, we are preparing the GTP guide for
publication by Goodyear Publishing. The manuscipt will be
delivered to the publisher in Novebmer 1997 and publication is set
for Fall of 1998. The GTP web site will augment the GTP guide so
that teachers anywhere in the world will be able to join the GTP,
and participate in global environmental activities.
- Seminars for science teachers on constructivism, active
learning and the internet. Fall 1997 and Winter 1998
- Teaching at the University of Hawaii at Hilo in Marlene
Hapai's science teacher enhancement project which is funded by the
Eisenhower Higher Education Program of the U.S. Department of
Education.
- A new seminar on Using the Internet to Enhance Science
Teaching---Spring 1998
- Video conferencing among American and Russian teachers and
students using CUSeeMe software and digital cameras.
