NTASC Standards to Be Addressed In
The Junior-Year (Entrance to Professional Sequence) MCE Program Portfolio

For your Junior-Year MCE Program Portfolio, you will need to submit artifacts and narrative explanation relative to the following standards to the Middle Childhood Faculty.  The following are suggestions on what portions of your IT 3210 Learning Environment Portfolio might apply to each INTASC Standard for your MCE Program Portfolio.

INTASC 1. The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches* and can create leaning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.

*Students will be assessed on their understandings of their disciplines (major and minor areas) and on the teaching of Reading at this point of the portfolio evaluation. Students will be assessed on "creating learning experiences" within the disciplines (Math, Science, English, and Social Studies) at the next assessment point.

INTASC 2. The teacher understands how children learn and develop, and can provide learning opportunities that support their intellectual, social, and personal development. INTASC 3. The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. INTASC 4. The teacher plans instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals. INTASC 5. The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the learner.
