Preserved Whaling Boats
Remnants of a past age, these
whaling boats are amazingly preserved by the freezing and
thawing of snow and ice on the outer islands of the
Antarctic Peninsula. Chinstrap penguins noisily run past the
90 year old boats. Half Moon Island is a small,
crescent shaped island in the South Shetlands, between
Livingston and Greenwich Islands. It is notable for a large
and noisy chinstrap penguin rookery. Photo by: Nydia R. Hanna, MV
