| The Jobs and Internships Mailing List |
|
We provide the jobs and internship mailing list to share information with students about job and internship opportunities. This is a fully functioning mailing list, and both students and alumni can also post information related to jobs, internships, or career development. The list has functioned well for many years, though it does not handle large files well. We post text files without attachments, which is probably best for all concerned. Always remember that this list is provided for students and alumni of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. You can expect to receive 10 to 15 Email messages from this list each week. It is also possible to get your messages as a weekly digest and/or to read mail on the Web. You can designate how you would like to receive mail on the list Web site. You can also find a complete archive on the Web page, which can be helpful for generating ideas about possibilities. Some employers do a good job of letting us know when they are hiring and others do not. On occasion, an employer may also go through a period when they are not hiring anyone. Contacting some past employers might reveal possibilities that others do not know about--or you might prompt someone to hire again. Out interns and graduates have a great reputation, so anyone that you talk to is apt to have a positive view of PMAP students. |
| Getting Started
Send an e-mail message to: JIPAUS-subscribe@topica.com. You do not need to provide any other information to be subscribed to the list. Your subscription gets you a copy of all available job and internship information. |
| Using the List
Rememebr that all subscribers can also send mail to the list. The subscribers include a wide variety of undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni with different levels of work experience. Perhaps you have a problem or question that the subscribers could help you with? Also, you may hear of an opportunity that might be of interest to other students. You can submit an Email to the list by sending it to this address: JIPAUS@topica.com. You can also send information to one of the internship coordinators. The thing to remember is that our success hinges on our access to information. Our many students and alumni give us a powerful advantage that we should be putting to good use. Share information with PMAP, and, when you get the chance, look to PMAP for quality employees! |
| Stopping Mail
Send an e-mail message to: JIPAUS-unsubscribe@topica.com. This is all it takes to leave the list. It is also possible to suspend mail for shorter periods of time, such as a vacation. This can be done on the list Web site. |
Visiting the Mailing List on the Web
The Jobs and Internship mailing list also has a home page on the Web. You can change your settings at the Web site, read or send mail, and access the list archives. The archives contain hundreds of previous postings. This is the address: http://www.topica.com/lists/JIPAUS. |
| Common Problems You should never send personal correspondence to the list. This can happen easily if you are careless in replying to an individual who has posted mail to the list. Using the list to promote your own personal business is also not a good idea. Nor is this list a good place to vent. There are always different opinions about what belongs on any mailing list. Anything that can help PMAP students to succeed is fine here. Encouraging involvement is a better strategy than making rules and building walls. Do not hesitate to share an idea or an insight. |
| Georgia Hire is also Worth Your Time
Georgia Hire is another excellent place to look for jobs and internships. It provides listings, and it also allows you to keep a resume on file and enter information about your interests. Students who use this service have gotten calls from employers who read their resume on the Web. |
