THE OPTIONAL STUDY GUIDE FOR THE TEXT ONLINE MBA 8030 - NO OVERFLOWS PERMITTED Unfortunately, the MBA 8030 online class fills up quickly. To run this class effectively, it is important to keep the course capped at 25 students. It is important for you to monitor for any openings that may arise. I won't be able to maintain a "wait list" to get into the course. Due to the importance of the orientation, no requests for entry into the class will be considered after the orientation, even if an opening appears later in the week. I truly apologize for the hassles you often face to get into a class, but limiting enrollment is the most manageable way for me to run an effective online course. I hope to meet you in this class or in a future course. Perry This course only meets in person one time - for the Mandatory Orientation. The class has a Team Project, one or two exams ("take home"/online), possibly an Individual Project, optional weekly chats, and a Web Participation grade (extensive, mandatory weekly uLearn discussion board postings -- about 1,800 last semester - and short projects ) Topics covered include: Ethics & The Courts, Contracts, Intellectual Property/E-Commerce Law, Business Entities/Criminal Law, Torts/Products Liability, Employment Law, Consumer/Debtor-Creditor Law * * * * * HOW THIS ONLINE CLASS WORKS 1. Look at the Reading Assignment attached to this syllabus. Note that it usually includes text reading and web reading at http://www.gsu.edu/~rmipzb/syllcont.htm . 2. Go into uLearn and read the Lecture Hall Notes corresponding to that week’s reading. These notes will usually be posted a few days prior to the corresponding chat session. Week One's Lecture Notes 3. The Lecture Hall Notes will pose questions for discussion. Go into the uLearn Discussion Board (a/k/a “THE BULL”). I set up different boards for each week, and will start separate discussion threads in advance, to keep the separate topics organized. 4. Discussion Board postings may be detailed responses to other student postings. They need to be posted by the stated deadline in preparation for optional chat session in Chat Room 1 (for Summer 2009, we will discuss the T/Th format at orientation). 5. A note regarding e-mail use – the purpose of this class is to encourage collaborative learning. Thus, the interaction I’m seeking is on the Bull, not through e-mail communication. The limitation of e-mail is that other students cannot benefit from your insight or your questions. In this regard, please feel free to post questions on the Bull for fellow students. I’ll be monitoring the Bull during the week. While I won’t be responding to all of the postings, I will jump in if I see a question that needs answering. Thus, please limit your use of e-mail to me (unless it concerns a matter which is inappropriate for the Bull). NOTE: At our orientation session, I will pass around an index card asking for your e-mail address, in case I need to contact you concerning class material. Make sure you put down an address where you may receive sensitive information such as grades. So, to summarize: 1. Go to uLearn – print out the Lecture Hall Notes 2. Read the weekly Text and Web assignments –see if there are any REQUIRED postings for that week 3. In uLearn, go to this week’s Bull – post meaningful messages 4. Monitor the Bull continually to respond to fellow student postings 5. I’ll guide the class through discussion in optional Chat Sessions (Chat Room 1) *
