NMI Testbed GRID On the Call: UABJill Gemmill, Jason Lynn, John-Paul Robinson UAHSandi Redman Georgia StateAlan Tang, Art Vandenberg Educause/Internet2Ann West UMichAbhijit Bose SURAMary Fran Yafchak Purpose of meeting - Review status of NMI Testbed GRID, Internet2 demo scripts, and site reports. Discussion included following topics:Internet2 Fall Member Meeting, Demo scripts - UMich and Georgia State have drafted scripts. Other sites working. We discussed use of scripts both at potential demo session [pending acceptance of proposal] and potentially at Finale Testbed Results Workshop Sept 30/Oct 1 that follows Internet2. OGCE Portal - Sites have Windows, Linux, and Solaris versions in some various states. Linux seems to be way fully functioning - portal up and Ganglia or GridPort agents providing status of resources (using GPIR). Windows version (at TACC) having some problems with submitting job; Solaris version (at Georgia State) can't do agents (appropriate java GridPort not available; Ganglia has problems with 32 bit compile running on 64bit system - though it's supposed to work.) Bridge CA Status of Inter-operation User Demo - BridgeCA cross certification has been done for UAB and is in process with TACC, but idling a bit as far as User Demo itself (for example, user with UAB certificate being able to access TACC grid resources without first having to get TACC certificate.) Discussed what was involved in such a user test, what was sufficient demo? (For instance, see UVA site: https://www.pki.virginia.edu/nmi-bridge/ describes how to go about cross-certifying - isn't that a possible demo of capability?) Agreed that we need to continue working. If nothing else, trying for a User Demo will highlight open items that need to be worked. Summary Status of Other Action Items: ACTION ITEM (GSU/USC): Run genome alignment application at USC. Implies getting USC cert and appropriate policy for access. And sets up potential of using USC cert to access UAB genome alignment application (and vice versa.) Deadline: By June 24? Still working ACTION ITEM (GSU): Implement OGCE portal, Ganglia. Deadline: By June 24? Still working. Though call with TACC June 18 seems to indicate Georgia State should go Linux due to limited availability of workable agents to work OGCE in reporting resource information (see above). ACTION ITEM (GSU): INSF REU - TACC and GSU conference calls (June 3 & 18, 2004) introduced NSF REU (Ashesh Sahib TACC; Nicole Geiger GSU) and began dialog on portals implementation. ACTION ITEM (GSU/UAB): Run genome alignment using MPICH-G2. In process. Deadline: ? ACTION ITEM (ALL): Policy Documentation. Previous discussions related to Policy. Art reported that Shelley Henderson has "forwarded to appropriate entity" Nova Ahmed's request for access to USC resources. However, Art checked the USC web site ( http://www.usc.edu/hpcc/ ) that presents a HPCC Allocation Policy link and states: "The use of rcf-01 [cluster] and hpc is controlled by the HPCC Allocations Committee, under the authority of the HPCC Steering Committee. You must fill out an application and submit it to the Allocation Committee to obtain permission to use these facilities. The committee will soon be accepting requests for FY 2004-2005, which starts 7/1/04." So, Nova Ahmed will see how it goes. Even a liberal policy that "lets anyone access the resources" is still policy. We believe collecting policy information from sites would be helpful. [NMI Testbed Grid should draft policy? - at least state current assumptions.] ACTION ITEM (ALL): Documentation. Ongoing. NEXT CALL : Thursday August 5, 2004 4:00-5:00pm EDT
