NMI Testbed GRID On the Call: UABJohn Paul Robinson, Zach Garner UAHSandi Redman GSUArt Vandenberg TACCAshok Adiga Educause Ann West Purpose of meeting - Review status of NMI Testbed GRID. Internet2 Spring Member Meeting sessionWe noted the Internet2 Spring Member Meeting session that will include discussion of NMI Testbed GRID: NSF Middleware Initiative: Leveraging Enterprise Middleware to Support Virtual Organizations and GridsApril 20, 2004 , 10:30 AM - 11:45 AM EDT http://events.internet2.edu/2004/spring-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1314&event=203 Ann West advised that Brian Gilmore, University of Edinburgh , will discuss JISC initiatives in UK related to virtual organizations. Kevin Thompson, NSF, will present NMI perspective, Jim Jokl and Art Vandenberg will present status of NMI Testbed GRID. The theme is essentially: ".developing tools and resources to enable scientists and researchers to more effectively and easily participate in national and international grid-related projects and virtual organizations." We have 15 minutes to present status of NMI Testbed GRID related to these monthly calls ( UVa Bridge CA has separate time allotment), we will not have a "live demo" capability but will discuss:
NOTE : Ann West requested draft slides by April 14. Art will copy NMI Testbed GRID & requests site input . Discussion of action itemsWe reviewed action items from previous meetings. These resources are important to our effort - representing a heterogeneous set of resources, enterprise middleware that we will bring to our NMI Testbed GRID Virtual Organization . MDS for Virtual Organization - NMI Testbed GRID ACTION : Find out about the MDS ; establish a VO MDS for NMI Testbed GRID. Responsibility : Georgia State (though input welcome!). Target Date : March 23, 2004
Portal options - Compare and contrast ACTION : Continue GridPort and OGCE work. Responsibility : GSU, UAB, TACC? UMich? Target Date : March 23, 2004 and ongoing. · Georgia State still working GridPort (see above discussion on NMI All Bundle install). · UAB reports they are focusing on OGCE as vehicle for faculty demo of applications planned about June. · Georgia State genome alignment program might be demo application. · UAH genome data-mining application might also be considered. Documentation ACTION : Document. Responsibility : All sites. Target Date : Now. In discussing web site, UAB observed that their "@ Lab" site is "in progress" as internal evaluation for UAB and perhaps not ready for prime time. We discussed using Plone ( http://plone.org/ ) as an open source document management system . Georgia State will look into this. Georgia State has in the meantime started a NMI Testbed GRID page to post these minutes pending Plone setup. (Also, clearly, a portal such as GridPort or OGCE would be a documentation component.) NSF REU Resources - GSU, TACC. ACTION : Engage NSF REU and NMI Testbed GRID GRAs . Responsibility : GSU, TACC, (UMich?) Target Date : Immediate TACC and Georgia State will have their resources work together on portals at least. NEXT CALL : Thursday April 29, 2004 4:00-5:00pm EST
