GRID Group @ GSU 1. Introductions 2. Middleware 3. Application - the real drivers 4. Next steps 5. Meeting schedule I've confirmed Monday April 14, 2:30-3:30 pm for our meeting. I've received interest from, and invited to this meeting, Dr. Yi Pan (CS), who is doing GRID and cluster computing research, and Julian Allen (IST/UETS), who manages a group working on visualization and other faculty support. I've also copied Dr. William Robinson (CIS) who may have interest. For some of us who may want a bit more info on GRID, the April Scientific American has an article by Ian Foster on Grid Technology: ( http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?colID=1&articleID=000B1833-21DF-1E64-A98A809EC5880105 ) you can also find Foster's "The Physiology of the Grid: An Open Grid Services Architecture for Distributed Systems Integration " at his homepage : http://www-fp.mcs.anl.gov/~foster/ Looking forward to this meeting. April 14, 15, and 16 (Mon, Tue, Wed) are open on my calendar and I would like to try to arrange a 1 hour meeting to discuss. I think a group focused on GRID infrastructure and applications can really help us collaborate toward mutual goals. Given the complexity of GRIDs infrastructure, I really feel that we should bring our resources together, at least our ideas and knowledge, if not hardware, software, applications. Certainly, there may be improved funding opportunities if we work together in a coordinated way. I'm working on GRID middleware with the NSF Middleware Initiative. Dr. He is exploring GRIDs for his muon detector projects and in order to access LHC in Cern. Dr. Weber has visualization applications that might benefit from GRID resources. Dr. Harrison is building GRIDs in CS for use by researchers. David McBride is working on visualization that could be deployed over GRID environment. Dr. Vaishnavi is exploring design research and inter-organizational collaboration. ... and surely there are others... I'd really appreciate the opportunity to get together to discuss our approach to GRIDS. Can you advise me which times on April 14-16 are okay for a meeting? Or suggest a better time if none of these work. thanks Art |
