Atlanta Herpetology Club

Atlanta is a great place for herpetologists and herp enthusiasts. Located in the Piedmont region of Georgia, we have relatively easy access to the Upper Coastal Plain, Appalachian Plateau, Ridge and Valley, and the Blue Ridge Regions of Georgia. (We may even take a field trip to the Lower Coatal Plain Region in the future.)

In addition, Atlanta has amazing resources in terms of herpetological resources such as those at the Atlanta Botanical Garden and Zoo Atlanta. There are lots of possibilities and we are open to new ideas from new members.
Here are some possible future activities we have planned:

• Talks by staff members of Zoo Atlanta, visiting researchers and faculty at Georgia State, University of Georgia, and other Atlanta schools, and staff at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources
  
• Field trips to Herp shows in Atlanta:

• Herp survey competition with the Herpetological Society at University of Georgia
• Educational outreach to school groups and the public in the Atlanta area
• Sampling for chytrid fungus among amphibians in Georgia.
  
• Field trips to the "Lizards & Snakes Alive!" (Feb 2007) and "Frogs: A Chorus of Colors" (returning Sept. 2007) exhibits at Fernbank Museum of Natural History
  
• Surveys of hellbenders in northern Georgia
• Field trip to Zoo Atlanta to see the herpetological collections
• Field trip to Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge
• Field trip to Tennessee Aquarium to view the herpetological collections
• Design and sale of our very own Atlanta Herpetology Club t-shirts (submit design ideas to President Bridget Wynn).
