To our knowledge, Project Healthy Grandparents is the only program that provides comprehensive support services to grandparents and the grandchildren they are raising. As such, PHG is disseminating information on this program as a national model to be replicated in other communities.
The Georgia Department of Human Resources, Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program, has recognized the impact of the program and has funded replication of the PHG model in three Georgia locations: the University of Georgia (Athens), the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta), and Valdosta State University (Valdosta). By operating the program through universities, the focus is on collecting data crucial to understanding the needs of intergenerational families; however, the PHG model can easily be adapted by other community service agencies. PHG hopes to continue to share this model and provide education, support, and resources to organizations and individuals involved with intergenerational families.
