Open House in Cairo (July 7, 2009)

Alexandria University Open House in Cairo

The invite for this event included employers, prospective students, administrators and faculty. GSU alumni of the MBA program that was conducted in collaboration with Cairo University several years ago were also invited. Although the MBA program is no longer in existence, many of the 65 graduates of that program have achieved mid-level managerial positions in multinationals, World Bank and major domestic institutions. Also invited were the Cairo University Faculty of Commerce faculty members of the 3-track undergraduate program.

Dean Ossman made the first presentation emphasizing that the EMBA offered is not a joint degree program and that the graduates will receive a degree from AU. Dean Huss followed and talked about RCB Executive MBA and the emphasis on leadership as opposed to management. Dr. Bijan Fazlollahi talked about special features of the program including:

  • International residency in Atlanta, home to corporate giants like UPS and Coca-Cola. During the visit the participants will learn and experience the impact of cultural differences on management conduct of business.
  • Acquiring executive skills including inter-personal skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Focus on the whole organization and not functional areas such as Accounting, Finance, etc.
  • View of the reality of organizations through the eyes of guest speakers who have experience leading companies. Some of these guest speakers will be MBA alumni of GSU and Cairo University joint degree program.
  • Dr. Gomaa explained the curriculum and schedule of course offerings in detail. According to the plan students will apply for the new program by mid-August and the classes will begin about mid-September after the month of Ramadan. During the fall 2009 semester, two to three US faculty members will collaborate in teaching courses with Egyptian faculty members.
