Honors Student Awards

These awards are presented at the annual College of Arts and Sciences Honors Awards Ceremony to students selected by faculty as follows:

Andrew West Scholarship:      
The scholarship will be awarded to a student who shows exceptional talent in one or more areas of art and design.

Recipients are selected by the entire Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design faculty.

Joseph Perrin Award:       
This award is given to an art student whose artwork and professional potential are meritorious.

Recipients are selected by the entire Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design faculty.

Vera Jernigan Green Memorial Art Award:  
This is an annual award to be given to an art student with a major concentration in painting, who is in good academic standing and has completed at least one quarter of his or her junior year.  The award recognizes the most promising student in this concentration and is based totally on merit.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Drawing, Painting and Printmaking faculty.

Marion Bowen Davis Scholarship:    
This is presented annually to a female student(s) who is (are) enrolled in the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design and who is (are) majoring in painting or in a major where fabric/fibers or wearable objects are aligned with the fashion field.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Textile and Drawing, Painting and Printmaking faculty.

Susan Babush Memorial Scholarship:   
This annual award was established in memory of Susan Babush, a graphic design student in the School of Art and Design.  The award is granted on the basis of artistic ability and financial need. Preference is given to students of graphic design

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Graphic Design faculty.

Outstanding Undergraduate Art History Award:  
This award is presented annually to one or two advanced art history majors who have consistently demonstrated exceptional merit and achievement in their coursework, service to the School of Art and Design and the promise of continuing distinguished work in the discipline.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Art History faculty.

Thomasine Bradford Scholarship:    
The Thomasine Bradford Scholarship is awarded annually to an Art History major either graduate or undergraduate who has demonstrated commitment and promise in the pursuit of Art History.  Faculty and students from the School of Art and Design and friends of Thomasine Bradford have endowed this Scholarship.  The Scholarship honors Thomasine Bradford who, during her short time on the faculty of the School of Art and Design, has left a legacy in the School's Community through her teaching, mentoring, and scholarship.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Art History faculty.

Outstanding Art Education Degree Student Award:
This is an annual award given to an art education student who has completed all the degree requirements for art education at Georgia State University.  The award recognizes the student who has demonstrated outstanding potential for excellence in teaching.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Art Education faculty.

Outstanding Art Education Certificate Student Award:  
This is an annual award given to a transfer student who has completed the certification requirements for art education at Georgia State University.  The award recognizes the student who has demonstrated outstanding potential for excellence in teaching.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Art Education faculty.

The Jean Ellen Jones Art Education Award:  
This annual award recognizes a student in the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design who exhibits exceptional leadership and professional potential in the field of art education.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Art Education faculty.

Ernest Welch Undergraduate Photography Award: 
This award is presented annually to a photography undergraduate student who has consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication to their artwork.  The award recognizes the excellence of their work and the promise of continuing distinguished work in the discipline.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Photography faculty.

Ernest Welch Graduate Photography Award: 
This award is presented annually to a photography graduate student who has consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication to their artwork.  The award recognizes the excellence of their work and the promise of continuing distinguished work in the discipline.  The award acknowledges their generous character and their exceptional contributions to the graduate program of the School of Art and Design.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Photography faculty.

Outstanding Graduate Sculpture Student Award:
This is an annual award given to an outstanding graduate sculpture student by the sculpture alumni for quality of work and dedication.

Recipients are selected by the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design Sculpture faculty.

Outstanding Undergraduate Sculpture Student Award:
This is an annual award given to one or two outstanding undergraduate sculpture students by the sculpture alumni for quality of work and dedication.
