Welch School Students competed in " Identity 100", rebranding 100 Peachtree. Overall Winner; Katherine Hillard, Tied Second Place Winners; Amy Dinsmore and Deborah Bush; Fan Favorite; Katarina Kennedy were honored at an awards reception at 100 Peachtree.


Welch School MFA Candidates Nam Won Choi and Megan Van Deusen exhibit work at Portal Gallery, (Inside the Metropolitan Warehouse Complex in the West End) 675 Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta GA 30310. Opening Friday, May 3rd, 7:30 - 11:30 pm.


Welch School MFA Alum, In Kyoung Chun exhibits work with Moca GA in the WonderRoot Walthal Artist Fellow Show, One One, An Exhibition of New Works. The exhibit runs April 26 - June 8th. In Kyoung Chun will give an artist talk on May 25th, 1-2 pm.

Welch School MFA Alumni, Kelly O'Brien accepted an Assistant Professor tenure track position at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and will move to Minneapolis in the summer of 2013. Congratulations!


Welch School undergraduate textiles student, Sophia Frissell will exhibit artwork in a National Show with the "Handweavers Guild of America - Small Expressions". The exhibit is on view at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, June 1 - September 7, 2013.

The art exhibition will be on view March 22 - April 6th at the Dalton Gallery.

GSU, MFA Graduate Anya Liftig gives a talk: Re-Performance at Atlanta Contemporary Art Center. "Simultaneous" exhibits at IV Soldiers in Brooklyn, NY; she performs with Spread Art at ITINERANT in the Bronx, NY. Anya Liftig will perform with Panoply Performance Lab in Berlin for the Month of Performance Art in May 2012. Anya Liftig curates her first performance show at the Center for Performance Research and exhibits a video at RAPID PLUSE festival in Chicago.


Eight Students from the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design were selected to take part in the GSU 5th Biennial Cultural Competency Conference Exhibition. The Exhibition opened on April 9, 2012 and runs through May 1, 2012 in the GSU Student Center Gallery Lounge. Participating artists include: Diana Agyei-Kyem (BFA Textiles), Paul Benjamin (MFA Sculpture), Shakya Cheeks (BFA Photography) NamWon Choi (MFA Painting), Brandon English (BFA Photography), Destinee Fisher (BFA Photography), Grace Kim (BFA Painting), Fenton Thompson (BFA Painting).


Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design,  Masters of Art Education Students, Briana Hargro, Alyssa Myers, Ayana Weekes and Lauren Phillips published their research abstracts in Collage, The Georgia Art Education Association Publication. Their articles can be found on page 2, 14, 15, 20-23.

Julia Andrew Cho, Ceramics MFA 2011 and Sarah Justice, current BFA student with a concentration in ceramics both had work accepted into the 2012 San Angelo National Ceramic Competition at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts in San Angelo, TX. The jurors, renowned critics Garth Clark and Mark Del Vecchio, selected 106 works by 87 artists from a pool of 1385 pieces submitted by 515 artists.

BFA ceramic student Dennis Holmes won first place at the 22nd Annual Georgia National Fair.
BFA student Sarah Maundy was awarded the People’s Choice Award for her sculpture “Standing Up to Wall Street,” as part of the 23rd Decatur Fine Art Exhibition at Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College.
MFA Interior Design Candidate Cotter Christian presented a paper at the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Conference in Denver, CO. His paper, "Augmented Reality: Implications and Opportunities for Interior Design" considered the current technology of augmented reality, how it is being used, and the potential applications for the practice of interior design. Twenty-three Georgia State Art Students Present Their Work for Two Days on the Westside. Art Student Union, representing 12 fine arts organizations at Georgia State University, is hosting a two-day special exhibition,titled Slant Aesthetics, featuring 23 artists and over 40 works in a variety of media, at the Jennifer Schwartz Gallery from April 15th – 16th. This curated exhibition will showcase some of the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design’s latest arts projects, all of which offer the viewer an alternative means of viewing and experiencing various media. The opening reception will take place on Friday evening, April 15th, from 6:30 to 9:30, and the exhibition will remain up during the Westside Art District’s third Saturday Art Walk on April 16th from 11am to 5pm. Professors Christina West and Craig Drennen, as well as MFA students Phoenix Savage, Christina Price Washington and Meta Gary, were included in the "Movers & Shakers" exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Georgia. Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) Executive Director Brenda Galina and Associate Director Laura Flusche have chosen the work by senior designer Shane Thomas to be used as their poster and Tshirt design for their Inaugural Show "Passione Italiana: Design of the Italian Motorcycle" at their new home across from the High Museum which opens in February 2011. Also,-shirt designs chosen for MODA to sell year-round were narrowed down to the following: Austin Frantz, Venkat Gazula, Victoria Lane, and Melanie Bostwick. Additionally, MODA has requested using Shivani Kapoor's and Sarah Kim's posters as postcards that will sell at the motorcycle exhibit. Also, the previous project the class created earlier for MODA (The MODA Donor Wall) to be used to highlight the donors to their museum in their new location is being presented/decided today with the Architects Perkins + Will. The senior designers' work still being considered is by: Barron Biros, Shivani Kapoor, Lauren Hill and Venkat Gazula.
