Addtional Information About the Center for Hellenic StudiesThe Center for Hellenic Studies was established at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, to expand and disseminate knowledge of ancient and contemporary Hellenic cultures. The Center achieves this aim through interdisciplinary research, University courses, and community events that focus on Greek history, philosophy, religion, language, society, and arts. The Center also supports greater interaction between American and Greek institutions and individuals through faculty and student exchange programs with Greek universities. The Center for Hellenic Studies is the product of a unique collaboration between a community organization, the American Foundation for Hellenic Studies, and a public university, Georgia State University. These parties were brought together by their shared interest in Greek language, literature, political theory, philosophy, art, architecture, music, and science. The Foundation seeks to promote the study of Hellenic contributions to humanity. Georgia State is well suited to meet this goal. The University offers a diversity of courses related to Hellenic thought and encourages faculty research on ancient and modern Greek life. In addition, Georgia State has developed many successful global initiatives that include both student and faculty exchange programs and institutional collaboration. Together, Georgia State University and the American Foundation for Hellenic Studies are committed to making the Center for Hellenic Studies a valuable educational resource and a focus of cultural and intellectual activity for the metro Atlanta area and beyond.
