The PantherCard Office is hosting special remote locations to make it more convenient for faculty and staff to pick up their new PantherCards at any of the following times:

September 19-20, 10 am - 4 pm: 216 Urban Life
October 2-3, 10 am - 4 pm: 939 General Classroom Building
October 9-10, 10 am - 4 pm: 710 RCB
October 16-17, 10 am - 4 pm, HR Training Room, Basement of One Park Place

You can also stop by the PantherCard Office, 200 University Bookstore Building, at any time to get your card. You must pick up your own card in person. All faculty and staff should have their new cards by January 2008.

You may look up your Panther # online at http://webdb.gsu.edu/lookup. Fall is a transition time for using either an SSN or Panther # to access GoSOLAR or a student's record in Banner.

Georgia State's conversion from using SSNs is compliant with the Board of Regents' mandate to improve confidentiality and protect individual privacy. The university will continue to collect SSNs to include in each individual's personal record to be used only for required business such as tax reporting for payroll services and student financial aid.

For more information on the SSN Conversion Project, visit www.gsu.edu/es/ssn.

MARTA System Updates

As many of you are aware, MARTA is actively rolling out the new MARTA Breeze Card Program. The University and MARTA have been working together for approximately two years (plus) in planning for the full implementation within Georgia State’s discounted MARTA pass program but still have some related programming matters to resolve.

In the interim, as the University and MARTA work on the remaining steps toward full implementation of the on line MARTA Breeze Card program, the University’s monthly MARTA transcards will be replaced with monthly MARTA Breeze Tickets, beginning in July 2007. Similar to the MARTA Breeze Cards, the MARTA Breeze Tickets will allow MARTA passengers to make transfers between systems (i.e., MARTA to CCT) or transfers from the train system to buses. In using the MARTA Breeze Tickets, passengers will no longer swipe the passes, but will "tap in - tap out" at the reader locations and in making transfers within the system.

Presently, monthly MARTA passes are discounted by the University from the full price from MARTA of $52.50 to $26 for students and to $38 for faculty and staff. These discounted prices have been in effect through the University’s Auxiliary and Support Services since April 2002. However, effective with the sale of the MARTA Breeze Tickets for the month of August 2007, the new prices for discounted monthly MARTA passes will be $32 for students and $42 for faculty and staff.

MARTA has also announced that beginning July 1, 2007, MARTA tokens will be considered as cash when inserted into bus fareboxes and transfers of any kind will no longer be distributed. For tokens or cash, each segment of a MARTA trip, including buses and rail, will require full fare. For example, if an individual takes a bus first, then uses a train and then another bus, the individual will pay $1.75 for each of the three trip segments. With these changes, MARTA tokens will be accepted and exchanged through September 30, 2007 through Breeze vending machines, bus fare boxes, and MARTA RideStores in intervals of ten or twenty (rolled or loose). Effective October 1, 2007, tokens will no longer be accepted within the MARTA system and instead single trip Breeze Tickets will be available for purchase at MARTA RideStores.

If you have related questions or need additional information, please contact Phil Wells, Interim Director of Parking and Transportation, in Auxiliary and Support Services, at 404-413-9512.
