New Student Programs
The Georgia State University Office of New Student Programs is committed to recruiting, retaining and developing students. The office introduces new students to the University by offering orientation programs that facilitate their integration and providing programs and services that enhance student development through leadership opportunitites.
Services Provided
- Incept: New Student Orientation - Georgia State University’s orientation program for new freshmen and transfer students, and their parents/guests. The program consists of up to 20 conferences for fall
semester students, held June through August. In addition, there are Incept conferences for students entering in the spring and summer semesters.
• Panther Welcome Week - a series of collaborative programs and events provided for new and current students, held during the first week of fall semester classes to assist in their campus transition as well as create a welcoming environment for all students.
• Freshman Convocation - a formal freshmen class induction ceremony, during which the Georgia State University President formally welcomes and inducts the new freshman class into the Georgia State community.
• Parents Association - The Georgia State University Parents Association was created to provide parents of Georgia State students with a special connection to the University, and to help parents continue to share in the lives of their students. Parents who join have a special opportunity to access Georgia State and its exciting campus. A one-year membership is $35.00 and a four-year membership is $120.00.
• T.O.A.S.T. - the Targeting Outstanding Achievements of Student Transfers program honors transfer students with certificates of appreciation for their academic achievement, and participation in student activities and campus life.
• Family Day- a day when parents and family members are invited to campus to share in food, fun, and family. From social events to educational sessions, families have an opportunity to sample the Georgia State University experience as they share in an exciting day of activities with their loved ones.
Student Involvement Opportunities
Incept: New Student Orientation Team (Inceptors) - a group of 20-25 paraprofessionals who participate in an extensive 100 hour training program and are selected each fall semester. Inceptors assist with orientation conferences and are committed to assisting incoming freshmen and transfer students with their transition to Georgia State and introducing them to the university’s faculty, staff, students and resources. The Office of New Student Programs seeks Georgia State University’s best and brightest undergraduate and graduate students to serve on the Incept team.

Alpha Lambda Delta - a national honor society for freshmen who earned a 3.5 GPA or higher in their first semester at Georgia State. Honor society activities include community service projects, social events, and campus tutoring for other freshmen.
• Tau Sigma - a national academic honor society designed specifically to recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students. Transfer students who have completed at least one year at a prior institution and who earned a 3.5 GPA or higher in their first semester at Georgia State are eligible for membership.
• Freshmen Connections - an organization with a focus on the freshmen of Georgia State University. Purposes are to help freshmen stay informed through activities and presentations, network with fellow students, faculty and staff, and become better acquainted to the university.
