Overview
Leadership Georgia State programs provide opportunities for Georgia State students to develop as the leaders of tomorrow. Leadership Georgia State consists of several components that work together to provide ongoing opportunities for leadership development and practice.
The Emerging Leaders Program
Georgia State’s Emerging Leaders Program is designed specifically for freshmen. One hundred students may participate in the program, which consists of three components: 1) a two-day summer leadership retreat held in July or August, where groups practice team building through interactive simulations, an outdoor ropes initiatives course and a rafting trip; 2) enrollment in academic courses as a group for fall semester which includes the GSU 1010 class (a 3-credit-hour college orientation course); and 3) various opportunities throughout the academic year to discuss new student issues at Georgia State and learn about leadership. Throughout fall semester, students participate in activities such as outdoor recreation programs, a service project and cultural events.
Leadership Conclave
Georgia State’s Leadership Conclave is an annual leadership conference held in fall semester to bring together Georgia State student leaders, staff and faculty in an atmosphere of leadership, learning and fun. Conclave offers breakout sessions on leadership topics such as motivation, teamwork, diversity, conflict resolution and goal setting. The retreat includes keynote speakers, small-group work and entertainment.
LeaderShape Institute
The LeaderShape Institute is a six-day state-of-the-art leadership program with a vision to improve society by inspiring, developing and supporting more people committed to leading with integrity. This program is offered on local, regional and national levels. Participants are chosen based on their commitment to leadership at Georgia State University.
Leadership Resource Center
The Leadership Resource Center is located just inside the Office of Student Life and Leadership. Books, games, videos and other materials related to leadership, team building and group development are available for student use and checkout. The center is a great resource for students who are involved or want to be involved on campus.
LEAD TEAM
The LEAD TEAM (Leadership, Education, And Development: Training,
Enlightenment, And Mentoring) sponsors leadership workshops open to all
Georgia State students. Sessions cover a variety of leadership topics and will be presented by both national speakers and local presenters. LEAD TEAM members are undergraduate students who have been highly involved in various leadership capacities while at Georgia State.
