Overview
The student media of Georgia State exist to provide students with journalistic learning opportunities in a variety of mediums and to provide forums for student expression. Participating students make important decisions about the management of these organizations and are responsible for the day-to-day operation of the student media.
The Committee on Student Communications (CSC), the governing body for the student media, meets for regular business each month and at other times for special purposes. Copies of the committee bylaws are available in the Office of Student Life and Leadership. In spring semester, the CSC solicits applications for the following student media positions: General Manager, GSTV; Editor, the Signal; General Manager, Rampway Online; Editor, New South; and General Manager, WRAS-Atlanta.

Georgia State University Television is the student-run television station of Georgia State. GSTV can be seen on monitors around campus and in the University Commons and The Lofts. Programming consists of Georgia State productions, music videos, documentaries and movies from college networks, as well as local, national and international syndicates.
GSTV allows students to become involved in every aspect of television broadcasting. Throughout each semester, GSTV offers hands-on videography and editing opportunities. After successfully completing training to be a staff volunteer, students can participate in existing programs or produce their own television shows. Some of GSTV’s past award-winning shows include GSTV News; Lounge 88; Georgia State basketball; and music, sports and interview productions. Past programming created at GSTV has been featured on MTV, ESPN, PBS and local stations. GSTV welcomes all students interested in television, broadcasting and production, regardless of major.

The online voice of Georgia State University students, Rampway Online is an Internet magazine. Rampway Online allows students to hone their skills in web design and other technology-intensive fields. It also offers writers, photographers, and marketing majors the opportunity to develop their abilities in an Internet-based environment.Rampway Online features exclusive written, video, and interactive content. Founded in 2000, it takes its name from Georgia State University ’s former yearbook.

New South, the University’s student-run literary magazine, serves to showcase the literary and artistic talent of established and emerging writers from around the world, while offering students an opportunity to gain valuable experience in editing and publishing.
Signal & Urbanite

The Signal and Urbanite, the student newspapers of Georgia State, provide students with an excellent learning workshop for journalistic, marketing, business, photographic and communications skills. The Signal is published each Tuesday during academic semesters and can be found in more than 50 locations on campus. The Urbanite is released each Thursday. The Signal has won numerous awards and currently covers campus news, opinions, features on student life, and Georgia State sports events. The Urbanite publishes arts and entertainment news including up-and-coming local bands and artists of national and international fame. Journalism experience is not required, and all students are welcome to be trained in basic news, features and sports writing, as well as advertisement sales and newspaper layout and production.

Since 1970, Georgia State has held a license for a noncommercial radio station. Through the Dean of Students and the Committee on Student Communications, the operation of the station has been placed in the hands of the students for the university community. The general manager is the chief officer of the station and is responsible to the Committee on Student Communications for all programming and for ensuring that all Federal Communications Commission regulations are strictly followed.
WRAS offers diverse new music, music from local bands, news, sports, coverage of Georgia State Panthers basketball games and selected baseball games, interviews, public service programming and announcements, and a wide variety of special music programming, including reggae, urban, big band, techno and classical. All students are encouraged to apply for positions as on-air announcers or for positions in the sports or news departments. The staff is limited to students attending Georgia State. WRAS has repeatedly received national recognition for excellence in college radio.
