Overview

The Department of Recreational Services strives to promote a healthy lifestyle through recreational sports and fitness activities offered to the University community, delivering programs, services and facilities that meet or exceed customer needs. Student Recreation Center (SRC) membership for currently enrolled students is automatic through student activity fees. Students must present their Panther ID for entry into the facility.

The SRC is located at 101 Piedmont Avenue between Decatur and Gilmer Streets. Included in the facility are two gymnasiums, one for basketball and volleyball. The second gymnasium hosts badminton, floor hockey, soccer, fencing, basketball, volleyball, and team handball. Other features include racquetball courts, one squash court, aerobic/dance/martial arts studios, free weights, cardio and selectorized fitness equipment, game room with billiard tables, table tennis tables, table games, shuffleboard and darts, indoor climbing wall, eight-lane lap pool, leisure pool, spa, sauna, outdoor patio with fenced green space, elevated jogging track, lockers, family changing areas, lounge area and vending.

The Indian Creek Recreation Area, which is 25 minutes from campus, offers
students use of tennis courts, children’s play area, sand volleyball court and cookout areas. The pool and children’s pool, along with a concession stand, are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend. The Lodge is available for use for approved department functions and approved events for chartered student organizations. A usage fee applies. The Lodge is not for personal use.

Panthersville Recreation and Athletic Complex is located 12 miles east of
downtown Atlanta. The facility is used for intramural events. When not scheduled for intramural activities, the facilities are available for general recreational use by Georgia State when reserved through Recreational Services.

A variety of services are offered to ensure stress-free and enjoyable
participation in the SRC. Services include, but are not limited to, lockers, uniforms and towels.

Programming includes drop-in fitness classes (free) such as aerobics, spin,
water aerobics, cardio kick, and more; instructional clinics (small fee) such as yoga, dance, martial arts and various sport clinics; intramurals, sport clubs, fitness assessments and personal training, outdoor recreation trips such as fly fishing, rafting, water skiing/wake boarding, snow skiing, backpacking, day hikes, horseback riding and equipment rental and aquatic programming.

The following special events are hosted throughout the year for the enjoyment of the Georgia State community:
• Polar Bear Plunge
• Annual Golf Tournament
• Fit Fair
• March Madness
• Day in the Park
• Kaiser-Permanente Walk/Run
